Walls, coats, and coverage
Measure the room in one consistent unit. Enter the combined area of doors and windows you want to exclude. Use the coverage on the paint label, then adjust coats and allowance to suit the surface. Ceilings, trim, and primer are separate.
A worked example
In a 12 × 10 ft room with 8 ft walls and 40 ft² of openings, the wall area is 312 ft². Two coats plus 10% extra at 400 ft² per gallon use 1.716 gallons, rounded to 2 whole gallons.
